Claude Augustin Miremont
Violin maker
(1827 – 1887)
Claude Augustin Miremont was a violin and bow maker. He was the son and pupil of Sebastien Miremont. He worked for C. L. Collin in Mirecourt, as well as Lafleur and Bernardel in Paris. In 1852, he moved to the USA and established himself in New York. He returned to Paris in 1861 and retired in 1884 to Belleville, later moving to Pontorson. He received awards at exhibitions in Paris, London, and New York. His instruments featured Stradivari, Guarneri, and Gagliano models, showcasing typically fine French workmanship and finish. The orange varnish he used had a light consistency. His bows were branded: MIREMONT.
