Maker of the first stamped bows from the Knopf family: "C. W. KNOPF". Son of Johann Gottlieb Knopf (who worked as tailor and violin dealer and is documented as a bow maker, but no known bows survive). Father of Christian Wilhelm II, Karl Wilhelm and Christian Friedrich.
