Giovanni Pistucci
Violin maker
(1864 – 1955)
A leading exponent of the 20th-century Naples school, Giovanni Pistucci studied with Vincenzo Postiglione, although little is known about his life and beginnings as a maker.
His fine work is influenced by Postiglione and he produced good copies of Gagliano and other Neopolitan makers, using reproduction labels. He worked closely with Vittorio Bellarosa for some years before his death, and Bellarosa is known to have done much of the varnishing of his later instruments. After his death, Bellarosa purchased his tools and workshop equipment.
