Carl Gottlob Schonfelder
Violin maker
–
Carl Gottlob Schonfelder was the son of Johann Georg Schonfelder (II). He became a member of the violin makers guild in 1811. The typical work of this family included very well-finished Stainer copies, characterized by medium height arching that was not exaggerated. They featured a good clear golden-brown varnish. His work was very consistent, often utilizing similar backs made from one piece with narrow horizontal figure. Internally, he branded his instruments with `C*G*S'.
