Max Möckel
(1873 – 1937)
Max was Otto Möckel’s little brother. Both received intensive training in violin-making from their father Oswald, who was a figure of authority among luthiers at the time. He was passionate about mathematics and trigonometry, and he naturally applied those skills to violin-making.
In 1924, Max published his thesis in his book "Das Konstruktionsgeheimnis der alten italienischen Meister. Der goldene Schnitt im Geigenbau", followed by the book "Die Kunst der Messung im Geigenbau" some time later.
He was appointed Reichsinnungs-meister in violin making (Guild master of the Reich).
