Ferdinando Garimberti trained under Romeo and Riccardo Antoniazzi before refining his craft further with Leandro Bisiach and Giuseppe Pedrazzini, and around 1920 he opened his own workshop in Milan. There he split his time between restoring fine antique instruments and building new ones — work distinguished by remarkable consistency, refined elegance, and meticulous attention to detail. He favored premium materials, most often paired with one-piece backs, and finished his instruments in a varnish that generally leaned toward a warm orange-red.

Dating from 1979, this is a late example from Garimberti's career, made during a period when, like many established makers of his generation, he received assistance from collaborators in his workshop. It displays the full, rich red varnish characteristic of his later output, offering a fine representation of his mature craftsmanship.
