Labeled, "David Tecchler fecit Romae An. D. 1749."
LOB: 35.3 cm
The instrument retains a clear golden-yellow varnish, a hallmark of the Florentine tradition. The workmanship reflects a confident hand, aligning it with the best output of the school during this period.
The strong similarity to Gabrielli’s work may also explain the relative scarcity of clearly identified Vangelisti instruments. It is entirely plausible that examples of his making have historically been attributed to, or remain unrecognized among, the many unlabelled instruments associated with Gabrielli.
As such, this violin represents not only a fine individual example, but also a compelling opportunity to acquire the work of a rare and under-recognized maker within the rich context of 18th-century Florentine violin making.
