Labeled, "Degani Giulio di Eugenio premiato con gran diploma d'onore in Milano e medaglia d'oro in Torino Anno 1914 Fece in Venezia." Inscribed to the label, "Venezia 21 Febbraio 1914." Signed to the label.
Branded to the lower ribs, "Giulio Degani."
LOB: 35.4 cm
The instrument is finely made, with clean execution and well-balanced proportions. The scroll displays the deep undercutting typical of the Degani workshop, and the violin is signed on the label and bears the maker’s brand to the lower rib.
This example falls within Giulio Degani’s most sought-after period, spanning the early years of the 20th century up to his departure for the United States. During this time, his work remained closely aligned with the Venetian tradition before evolving into more personal models in his later American output.
Altogether, this violin presents a strong and representative example of Giulio Degani’s work at its most disciplined and refined.
