Edwin Barker served as Principal Double Bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1976-2024, having joined the orchestra at age twenty-two. Prior to his tenure in Boston, he held orchestral positions including service with the Albany Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared frequently as a soloist with the BSO and with other orchestras in the United States and internationally. Barker is a longtime faculty member at the New England Conservatory of Music and is Associate Professor Emeritus at the Boston University College of Fine Arts.
