This cello bow by Charles Peccatte is a fine and well-preserved example of the maker’s work, original in all its principal parts. It displays an excellent weight and balance, with a head that is both elegant and strong, showing clear direction and refinement—qualities that place it among his best work.

The son of François Peccatte and nephew of Dominique Peccatte, Charles Peccatte was born into one of the most important bow-making families of the 19th century. He later worked under François Nicolas Voirin in the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, where he refined his craft within one of the leading ateliers of the period.

While much of his early work reflects the Vuillaume style, this bow represents his own model, demonstrating a confident and individual hand. Combining strong playing qualities with historical and stylistic interest, it would make a distinguished addition to any collection.
