Labeled, "Giuseppe B. Lecchi Fece in Genova Anno 1947." Signed to the label.
Branded to the lower ribs, "G. Lecchi Genova."
LOB: 35.5 cm
The instrument is in excellent overall condition, retaining a plentiful red varnish characteristic of the period. It features an unusual and attractive slab-cut back of irregularly flamed maple, lending the violin a distinctive visual character. Built on a Guarneri model, it shows Lecchi’s confident handling of form and proportion.
Made just a few years before his appointment as curator of Paganini’s ‘Cannone’ violin, this violin comes from a significant moment in Lecchi’s career. He was among the most respected makers of his time, known for his precise and consistent working methods.
This example captures those qualities fully, offering a combination of individuality, craftsmanship, and historical relevance within the 20th-century Italian tradition.
