This cello is sold by the grand-daughter of Helmut Reimann (1906 - 1994). Helmut began his career in the cafés of Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm, until winning a competition with the Bruckner Orchestra in Linz in 1944. He became a member of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart (SWR) c. 1950-1970, where he played under Furtwängler and Hindemith. He was also part of the Zernick Quartet and later the Barchet Quartet, recording the complete Mozart string quartets in the late 1950s and receiving a “Grand Prix” in Paris for it.
