This exceptional cello bow was made by Eugène Nicolas Sartory in circa 1895–1900, and represents the height of his much-coveted early output. It displays the typical elegant head model inherited from his teacher François Nicolas Voirin. The ebony frog is of the highest quality and is inlaid with a simple pearl eye, a quintessential detail of the maker’s pre-1900 work. What makes this bow extra special is its outstandingly fresh state of preservation, miraculously retaining its original faceplate, lightweight silk-tinsel lapping, and screw, as confirmed in the accompanying certificate from Pierre Guillaume. Bows by Sartory are highly sought after by musicians and collectors for their superb playing qualities, historical importance and investment aspects. The opportunity to acquire a specimen in this condition is especially rare.
