Claude Pierray was among the most important figures of the early eighteenth-century Parisian school and is thought to have trained within the circle of the Médard family. Working in Paris, Pierray developed a refined and elegant style that helped define the classical French tradition. His instruments were widely respected in his lifetime and contributed to the growing reputation of Paris as a center of violin making. Today, Pierray is regarded as one of the foundational makers of the French 18th century school.
