15: A CELLO BY JOHANN KULIK, PRAGUE, c. 1850

Labeled, "Joh. Kulik Geigenmacher in Prag A. 18...."

LOB: 74.4 cm

A rare cello by the distinguished Czech violin maker Johann Kulik, and one of only two examples known to us. The instrument is built with an exceptionally fine one-piece maple back and is covered in a rich, deep-brown varnish of great warmth and character. Its rarity, handsome materials and strong, resonant playing qualities make it an especially compelling example of Kulik’s work.
