Labeled, "Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi nella Contrada di Santa Margarita al Segno della Sirena, Milano 1759."
LOB: 71.8 cm
This cello dates from 1759 and reflects Landolfi’s bold and personal approach to form. It has a compact body length of 71.8 cm, a notable departure from earlier Milanese makers who favored large, oversized cellos well into the early 18th century. Interestingly, another prominent mid-century maker to champion a smaller model cello was G. B. Guadagnini who also lived and worked in Milan during the decade of the 1750s.
This compelling example is in excellent condition and combines manageable proportions with impressive tonal presence.
