Classical & Transitional Bows: March 2016 Auction

We have an unprecedented number of Classical and Transitional bows in our London March 2016 auction, some matching the quality seen at our recent Archet Révolutionnaire exhibition.

With bows by the pre-eminent Tourte brothers – Nicolas Leonard and François Xavier Tourte – and others from the early French, Italian and German traditions, these 23 bows are representational of the variety of styles and models that were being developed in the mid-to-late 18th century.

You can explore more about the history of these bows, the characteristics of playing style and the forces in play at the time of their creation, in Jason Price’s forward to last October’s exhibition.
