Hieronymous II Amati Sound Holes

Explore these characteristic sound holes by Hieronymous II Amati from the Cozio Archive, and compare them to the Amati workshop violin c.1685, probably by Hieronymous II, in the June 2016 London Auction.

Note the narrow stems, tapered wings and the round drilled upper and lower holes. Hieronymous II wasn’t as meticulous and polished as his father but the Amati DNA is still in full force.
