"This Violin was smuggled out of Nazi Germany by the Ostwald family in 1938 and has been used until recently by Peter Ostwald for whom it was bought in 1934 then a small boy from the dealer Henry Werro. Since Dr. Ostwald's death, the violin has been donated to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music by the family of the late Dr. Ostwald, in order to establish a scholarship fund in his name.
