Double-purfled with an intricate inlaid geometric design.

Back: In two pieces of slab cut maple with faint flame.

Top: in one piece of spruce with medium width grain.

Ribs: of similar wood.

Varnish: of a reddish brown color.

Length of back: 43.9 cm

Upper bouts: 21.1 cm

Middle bouts: 14 cm

Lower bouts: 26.4 cm

Notes:

The instrument was still in its original form when it was acquired by Sandeman, but he had it reduced in size. After his death, the viola was restored to its former size by William E. Hill & Sons.
