A New Addition to the Bookstore
This landmark publication includes 150 articles dedicated to the theory and craft of preserving stringed instruments and bows by 121 of the field’s leading craftspeople, scholars, and conservators. It emphasizes conservation-minded techniques for both violins and bows, and presents alternative approaches for the same repair. The articles are generously illustrated with photographs and technical drawings. Complex processes are broken down into simple steps, and all of the tools and materials required are listed. Terminology and systems of measurement are standardized throughout the work and a multi-lingual concordance of technical terms is provided. The work’s attention to documentation argues for a significant transformation of current attitudes and approaches to our cultural heritage, and a documentation CD-ROM with editable forms and measurements diagrams is included. Profits from the sale of the book will support IPCI research, reforestation, and educational activities.
