This book is a comprehensive photographic record of the 1987 exhibition held in Cremona to mark the 250th anniversary of Stradivari’s death. It includes over 400 illustrations from the exhibition of 44 of Stradivari’s finest and most interesting works. The significance and provenance of each instrument are noted, and the history of Cremonese violin making is described in detail. The precise measurements of each of the instruments exhibited are given in an appendix. There is a foreword by Yo-Yo Ma and an article on the musical background of the period by Professor Elena Ferrari Barassi.
