Labeled, "Pique Rue de Grenelle... à Paris 1795."
LOB: 35.9 cm
François Louis Pique remains one of the more underappreciated figures within French violin making. During the pre-Revolutionary era, instruments produced by the “vieux-Paris” makers were generally considered inferior to the Italian masterpieces of the preceding century. However, the emergence of the Lupot-Pique school marked a significant advancement for French lutherie. Pique, alongside his contemporary and former collaborator Nicolas Lupot, created magnificent grand-pattern Stradivari model violins. These instruments offered both the visual aesthetic and the tonal qualities that resonated with musicians seeking the characteristic Stradivari sound.
