Labeled, "Giuseppe Ornati fece in Milano anno 1927." Signed to the label.
Branded to the inside back, "Giuseppe Ornati Milano."
LOB: 35.6 cm
This violin was made at a pivotal moment in Ornati's career. Having received gold medals in Rome in 1920 and 1923, and again in Milan in 1924, Ornati had firmly established himself among the foremost Italian makers of his generation. Completed just one year before he opened his own independent workshop in 1928, this instrument captures the maker at the threshold of his mature period: assured in execution yet still animated by the ambition that defined his rise.
The violin features an attractive one-piece back of boldly flamed maple and a well-formed arching that affords both tonal color and projection. Purchased by its current owner over fifty years ago, it is now offered for sale for the first time in a generation, seeking a new home among players and collectors who can appreciate its significance.
