Among the finest examples known from this important American maker, this violin ranks as one of Gemünder's most accomplished achievements. The instrument is attractively antiqued, and the scroll is thoughtfully carved. The unmistakable influence of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, in whose workshop Gemünder worked in the years immediately preceding this violin's making, is evident throughout. Gemünder stands as one of the preeminent figures in the history of American violin making, and this instrument is a fitting testament to that distinction.
