Labeled, "Joseph Gagliano filius Nicolai fecit Neap. 1765."
LOB: 35.2 cm
A typical and characteristic example of Giuseppe Gagliano's output, displaying the hallmarks of the late 18th century Neapolitan school. The long upright soundholes, the slender pegbox with grouped pegs, the fiber purfling and square center bouts, these are all characteristics that define the Neapolitan school of this period. As is typical of Giuseppe and his brother Antonio, the varnish tends to a rich reddish-brown, instead of the olive-toned variants used at other times in the Gagliano family output. The length of back is a comfortable 35.2 cm and the instrument yields a sound of genuine power and presence. A satisfying and accessible entry point into works from the Gagliano family.
