Cesare Magrini began his training in the mid-1970s in the workshop of his uncle, Primo Contavalli (1899–1989), placing him within the established Bolognese tradition. He subsequently developed through close contact with leading 20th-century makers, including Otello Bignami, a pupil of Gaetano Pollastri, and Ansaldo Poggi, successor to Giuseppe Fiorini. These relationships, supported by Contavalli’s network, linked Magrini directly to the principal figures of the Bolognese school.

Magrini’s work often pays homage to earlier masters, with instruments modeled after Pollastri, Fiorini, and Poggi. Characterized by careful wood selection and a warm, classical varnish, his instruments represent a continuation of the Bolognese tradition in the late 20th century.
