New Years 2010

January 4th, 2010

Happy New Year from all of us at Tarisio

2010 brings many exciting new developments at Tarisio: We will have six New York sales in 2010, more than ever before. Consignments are rolling in fast and furious. More about that in later posts.

Our London branch will see reduced operation in the first half of 2010 as our European manager, Naomi Sadler, is on maternity leave through the middle of the year. She is so good at her job that we couldn’t replace her and have decided to go into a mini hibernation in London during her absence. We will not have a March 2010 London sale but will resume operations with our October 2010 London sale.

Our private sale department continues to flourish under our North American Manager, Ethan Ladd. We would be delighted to help you sell or buy an instrument by private treaty in 2010; please don’t hesitate to inquire.

Another important development is that my Tarisio co-founders, Christopher Reuning and Dmitry Gindin, are no longer partners at the firm although they will continue their role as private consultants for expertise and consignment acquisitions. The decision for them to transition away from active owners and directors of the firm was extensively considered: each has a full plate of outside interests, responsibilities and projects and the transition was very much mutual and in the best interests of all. Chris is currently curating the Bergonzi exhibit in Cremona for October 2010 and is busy with the expertise and certification in the growing business of Reuning & Son Violins in Boston. Dmitry is currently writing a comprehensive encyclopedia on 19th and 20th Century Italian violinmakers. You can see the official news release here.

2010 will see some interesting technological developments for Tarisio. In early 2010 we will be releasing an iPhone application to browse and bid in our auctions. So consider this fair warning: Get yourselves ready to bid on the bus, backstage, during intermission or possibly even during a slow movement with lots of rests…

Our sale schedule for 2010 is as follows. Please drop by to view. I look forward to hearing from you.
