Four year-old Tarisio recorded sales of $4m last year – about a third of the global market – which [Tarisio partner] Mr. Price attributes to specialist expertise and charging lower commissions than Sotheby’s or Christie’s.

The company’s success also shows that online auctions are an increasingly viable way to sell globally, even for expensive items.
