Chris Reuning

Dmitry Gindin – founding partner

Born in Moscow, Dmitry Gindin started his business as a dealer in fine instruments and bows in 1984. He specializes in Italian instruments of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Dmitry is now based in Europe though visits the US on a regular basis.

In 2002 Dmitry published The Late Cremonese Violin Makers. Based on extensive research of the Cremonese archives by Duane Rosengard, this book includes in-depth texts and detailed photos of the work of Cremonese violin makers after the golden age. Dmitry is now writing a comprehensive guide to Italian violin makers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Christopher Reuning – founding partner

Christopher Reuning, a violin maker, restorer and expert, became a violin making apprentice aged 12 at the House of Primavera in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also worked with Virgilio Capellini in Cremona, Italy, and developed a close association with two of the important experts in violin identification, Dario D'Attili and Charles Beare.

Since 1978 Christopher has been director of Reuning & Son Violins. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, this is now one of the leading international dealerships in fine violins (www.reuning.com). He takes a special interest in researching the history of the old master violin makers and the identification of old violins, and has collaborated with leading experts in the study of the classic Italian schools. He is a frequent presenter to the Violin Society of America and the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers.

Christopher is president elect of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers, an advisor to the North Bennett Street School Violin Making Department, on the board of the Boston Chamber Music Society and a cellist in the Longwood Symphony Orchestra.
