Nicolas Duchaine I

Duchaine was a prolific maker based in Mirecourt between the late 18th and the early 19th centuries. He and his son, Nicolas Duchaine II, were some of the earliest known makers outside Paris to brand their bows, using ‘A DUCHAINE’, with the ‘N’ reversed.

Duchaine created both pike-head and Cramer style bows with round ironwood or snakewood sticks, open frogs and ivory buttons.
