Of the many English makers' work that has been passed off as Italian, Jacob Ford's stands out as among the most successful. He seems to have worked between 1770 and 1795 for Duke, Thompson, and Simpson, and the rarity and expert craftsmanship of his work has made it a particularly tempting target for unscrupulous dealers. Deeply carved scrolls, broad purfling, and moderate archings are distinctive features. Ford often signed the interior of his work.
